Judge Demands Proof of Iris’ Condition—Crum's Lawyer Refuses to Comply

Updated: Mar 11

On Friday, February 28, Judge Charles E. Bell Jr. presiding over the Family Court case, two days earlier, ordered Dale Crum, Anthony's father, and his legal team provide proof of Iris’ medical status. Instead of producing the required documentation, the Crum's lawyer outright dismissed the court’s request, stating that she did not see why the court needed this information now—since Khaila Wilks Czereda was in jail.

This blatant disregard for the court’s authority and Iris’ well-being further highlights how the system has bent over backward to protect the Crums - a white family - while criminalizing Khaila, a Black woman. Despite their failure to provide medical records, the court has yet to take any action against the Crums, who continue to control Iris’ fate without accountability or oversight.

A Deliberate Evasion of the Truth

The judge’s request came after Dale Crum and his family repeatedly claimed that Iris could not return to her mother because she was undergoing medical procedures following a car accident. When pressed to provide medical records confirming these claims, their legal team instead deflected, making it clear that their goal was never to ensure Iris’ safety—but to hide their abuse at all costs.

  • Why have the Crums faced no consequences for failing to provide the proof the court requested?

  • Why is Iris still under the control of a family that has a history of neglecting and abusing her?

  • Why is the court allowing these stalling tactics while a Black mother remains wrongfully jailed?

Khaila Remains in Custody, Awaiting Extradition

While Dale Crum and his family evade accountability, Khaila Wilks Czereda remains in custody, awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

After being arrested under fraudulent child endangerment charges, Khaila is now stuck in legal limbo, facing the very system that ignored the abuse of her child and instead criminalized her for trying to protect Iris. Despite the lack of credible charges against her, she has yet to be transported to Tennessee for further proceedings, leaving her trapped in a state of uncertainty and injustice.

Khaila should be free. Iris should be safe. The people responsible for this injustice should be held accountable.
